Did you know? Self-Care for Success

Let’s face it: the modern life is a busy one. Taking time to de-stress is crucial to avoid burnout. Here are some scientifically-proven ways to treat yourself this month:

  • Take time to exercise: Aside from the normal benefits of exercise, studies show that regular physical activity helps people better deal with stress and regulate other emotions, reduces smoking, alcohol and caffeine intake, increases healthy eating and also helps people stay on top of household chores! Any activity, such as taking the stairs, counts and provides benefits.
  • Take a time out: Alone time can be vital to health and happiness, a recent Forbes articlesays. Research shows spending time alone can boost mood, increase empathy and aid in creativity as well as the ability to form lasting memories.
  • Take a break from the news: Emotional exhaustion from viewing the suffering of others can worsen from repeated exposure and negatively impact health. A study from the University of Bradford found that even viewing disturbing news via social media had a stressful impact on research subjects and led to decreases in cognitive ability, sleep disturbances and difficulty managing emotions. When the headlines or social feed gets too overwhelming, put your device down!
  • Take a hike: A recently published study from Scientific Reports says that spending at least two hours a week outside in nature is associated with positive health and well-being. Dine al fresco, stroll around the block or head for a hike on the weekend!
